Our train back to Beijing will leave from the Shanghai Main Railway station. This is the same station as our arrival but not the same as our trip to Hangzhou. Train stations at this time of year are packed as people are traveling back home for the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year). I heard on the news that 225million people would be on trains over this two week period. Our train is D314.
We visited the research and development center for Cisco Systems. Chris Dong, a colleague of Enwei's at Microsoft when they both worked in Redmond, gave us a great presentation about Cisco and about Chinese technology and culture. Chris, like Enwei, is from China and studied in the US. He is actually a US citizen. His team, Chao Zhou and Henry Xu, spent considerable time with us. We really appreciated their willingness to talk about their work and their home country.
Monday will be our last day in Shanghai. We will start out this morning packing up and getting ready to travel. This afternoon, we will visit Cisco China. Then, we will head to the train station to catch the overnight train back to Beijing.
